抄録: | Research on Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) has been conducted almost all over the world since the concept was proposed in two pioneering studies in 1983. Several studies have discussed the concept and dimensions of OCB in great depth. Some have examined the effect of an individual, a group, or organizational factors on OCB. However, research focusing on the outcomes of OCB is lagging for several reasons. It is not enough to relate the aggregated OCB to the organizational outcomes empirically, because this method does not give researchers a deep understanding of the role of each kind of OCB. This study points out the importance of each OCB, and examines the way in which OCB diffuses in the organization. This study also focuses on the effect of OCB on shared work values among organizational members, which, in turn, enables them to communicate about work-related matters in a smooth manner, without exchange of explicit language. This study also introduces the findings of a few empirical studies conducted by the author. These empirical studies reveal the important role of context in the process by which one OCB induces another. Finally, some directions for future studies are also proposed. |
