抄録: | The purpose of this article is to report the results of the book review meeting on my book, The U.S. Military Bases in Okinawa, and Japan-U.S. Security Arrangements: The Origins of Long-Term Bases(University of Tokyo Press, 2018). In it, I revealed the policy-making and negotiation process between the Japanese and the US governments over Okinawa, focusing on the changes in the role of the US military bases in Okinawa from 1945 to 1953. I argued that there was a possibility that the rearmament of Japan could have led to the return of Okinawa to Japan and reduced the number of US military bases in Okinawa. In this paper, I would like to summarize the issues discussed at the book review meeting, after introducing an outline of the book. |
