Abstract: The conformation of several binaphthyl-azobenzene dyads and oligonaphthyl-azobenzene dyads with an emphasis on the twist pattern of the helical (Z)-azobenzene moiety was researched. 2,2'-Linked-(R)-binaphthyl induced (Z,P)-azobenzene, whereas symmetrically 7,7'-linked-(R)-binaphthyl induced (Z,M)-azobenzene. A systematic and simple induction of asymmetrical azobenzenes was structured using common binaphthyl skeletons.
