Abstract: This report is a review of active wave control of a flexible beam the author has proposed for the last ten years. Conventional active vibration control methods encounter difficulties when the control target is a distributed parameter system which has an infinite number of vibration modes. Active wave control can overcome this problem; however, the conventional active wave control based on feedforward technique had two drawbacks. First, the conventional point-sensors-based wave filter cannot accurately work in the vibration field where the effect of evanescent waves is not negligible. Second, any kind of smart wave filtering method had not been established. To cope with these problems, the authors proposed two types of the wave filter. The brief review about them is described in this report, and it is clarified that the proposed methods cope with the problems described above from the numerical and experimental point of view.
